Medical massage, also known as therapeutic massage, is an outcome-based and targeted treatment plan to specific problems patients are experiencing and have been professionally evaluated for. Performed by a specially trained physiotherapist, its purpose is rehabilitation, most of the time by focusing only on the affected part of the body.
Medical massage could help if you are experiencing:
- Lower back pain keeping your from straightening up your back,
- pain-related headaches,
- back and neck pain from prolong sitting or bad posture,
- ongoing discomfort from a back injury,
- numbness in arms,
- radiating pain in arms and leg, or
- other difficulties in moving after an accident or injury.

What’s the difference between a spa massage and a medical message?
While both employ manual techniques which apply pressure to parts of the body, the key difference between the two is the purpose of the massage. A medical massage is therapeutically relevant, focusing on relieving pain and discomfort, while a spa massage is mostly used for relaxation or cosmetic purposes. A medical massage may be referred to you by a doctor or physical therapist, in which case may result in some or all of the price to be covered by your insurance company*. Spa massages have nomedical objective and certainly wouldn’t be covered most insurance plans.
