Urology is a surgical discipline that deals with the organs responsible for urine production. In males and females this includes: kidneys, bladder, urinary track, as well as urethra for females and prostate, testicles and penis for men.
Urology also cover the male reproductive system. There are many subdivisions of it, like uro-oncology (for tumors), uro-gynecology (for gynecological-urological problems), neuro-urology (for nerve-related voiding problems) and so on.
In both sexes, the urinary and reproductive tracts are close together, and disorders of one often affect the other. Urology combines management of medical (i.e. non-surgical) problems such as urinary tract infections and benign prostatic hyperplasia, as well as surgical problems such as the surgical management of cancers, the correction of congenital abnormalities, and correcting stress incontinence.
