Take our Diabetes Test

Newsletter Nov.13 - world diabetes dayDid you know that nearly 50% of people with diabetes are unaware of their disease?

The bodies of diabetics cannot properly process glucose due to a lack of, or a resistance to, a hormone called insulin. Without insulin the body cannot properly extract glucose from the blood, and even though blood sugar is elevated, glucose production does not cease because certain cells do not receive the energy and nutrition from the unprocessed sugar. This can have serious ramifications.

If the symptoms of diabetes are not recognized and treated properly, they can result in long-term health consequences which not only hinder everyday activities, but can even endanger lives through serious cardiovascular diseases, nerve damage, kidney damage, eye damage, damage to the legs and feet, skin and oral diseases, and osteoporosis.

Evaluation:

If your answers were mostly (1), based on our test, your chances of currently living with type two diabetes are very low. However, your risk may increase as you age, particularly if you gain weight. Get to know the symptoms of the disease, so that you can recognize them early on, and seek medical attention before they cause lasting problems.

If you gave several (2) or (3) responses, you appear to have symptoms that may indicate diabetes. If your symptoms do not cease, you should consult your physician.

If your answers were mostly (3), based on your symptoms, your likelihood of diabetes is very high. Serious medical repercussions may develop if you ignore your symptoms, you should turn to a physician immediately.
