Ingredients

  • 10 dkg butter, or margarine
  • 1 small cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 dl sour cream
  • 25 dkg flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder (sütőpor)
  • 5 medium sized pears

Preparation:

Using a small portion of the butter, grease the bottom of the cake mold. Sprinkle a spoonful or two of brown sugar on top of the greased pan then line with the cleaned, thinly sliced pears. Mix the remaining brown sugar and butter with a whisk, and add the egg, working it through the mixture. Next, add the sour cream, and finally the flour and baking soda. Pour the mixture over the pear slices.

Bake in a preheated oven, 180°C (350°F) for 20-30 minutes (using more pears – more moisture – can lead to a longer baking time). Check on the cake after 20 minutes; when a cake tester comes out clean it’s ready. While the cake is still warm, turn it upside down so that the pears are on top. Serve warm, and enjoy!

Spice it up: Mix some cinnamon with the brown sugar! For variety, you can use apples instead of pears, or just substitute some of the pears for apples.

Amazing pears!

Pears are a great source of dietary fiber, and various antioxidants, particularly vitamin C and zinc that support the immune system, help your body fight inflammation, and contribute to healthy bones. Don’t throw away the peel! The skin of pears contains 3-4 times as many phenolic phytonutrients as the flesh, and half of its dietary fiber.
